Reviews
“With an imagination like Studs Terkel on acid, author Kenneth James Crist regales his readers with an unblinking, jaundiced eye of what a zombie apocalypse would really be like. This collection, Groaning for Burial: The Carrion Men Chronicles, is definitely—and defiantly—a feisty swarm of zombie tales for grown-ups.” *** Hillary Lyon: Editor for Subsynchronous Press ***
“Being unschooled in zombie lingo, I dug into this, thinking in terms of a week or so to finish. Instead, it’s such an intriguing page turner, I couldn’t put it down. Kenneth James Crist has put together an excellent and eclectic collection of zombie tales. This little volume offers a marvelous cross section of the spectrum of zombies, their habits, their causes, and solutions available to the rest of humanity while tossing in a little sex, ample booze, plenty of violence and gore, and a full load of good reading.” *** Gary Clifton, Texas: Forty years a cop, writer ***
“Wickedly addictive and tremendously horrifying, Kenneth James Crist has shown me sides of zombies that I never knew I wanted to see. I ran through this book, finishing these wonderfully written stories in only twenty-four hours. This is a must read for any monster fan; showing in marvelous detail just what it would be like if the dead started to rise out of their graves.” *** Michael D. Davis, Author of the Count Whorton detective series ***
Kenneth James Crist’s Groaning for Burial is a great collection of zombie stories with a variety of mostly scruffy characters doing their best to survive in the new times. Kenneth gives his characters color, most often with a splash of blood-red, by using some snappy dialogue and infusing gut-wrenching sadness with the loss of camaraderie. Each story carries a common theme, us against them, but each story has its own plot and outcome. This is definitely a great read. ***Roy Dorman, crime and horror writer.***
